I wasn’t quite sure what I’d capture when I set out to “photograph couples.”

But my generation – the youngest millennials and oldest of generation Z – seem to approach relationships differently. We’ve been criticized for hook-up culture, but are having less sex than our parents and grandparents did. Our generation also seems to more accepting of several sexual orientations and more open relationships, like polyamory.

I learned pretty quickly that it’s easy to read statistics and talk about dating in that holistic way, but much harder to capture an intimate photograph that says the same thing. I had a wonderful time getting to know each of the couples I worked with, but our work only represents one part of relationships – the best parts.

I hope, in time, to capture photos representative of the sad and mad and really hard parts of dating, too, but until then:
